Personal Background:The First 3 Images were taken by Elena Elisseeva. Elena is a professional photographer currently in Toronto, Canada. She is a stock photographer with over 12,000 images in her portfolio. She has an honors diploma and Ph.D in physics from Moscow State University in Russia. She graduated in 1994. She became interested in Photography as a teenager, and then went to school for it and eventually moved to Canada to pursue her dream.
Style: The characteristics that the photos represented by Elena is the detail of snow. Lighting and color, or rather an absence of color, is shown. The white of the snow captures absence of color, putting focus on branches that show their brown color. Another characteristic is great composition. She uses composition such as symmetry, leading lines, and framing.
Philosophy:I don’t believe there was any personal, political, or social ideas behind these particular photos. I think the major ideas of these photos regarded a winter solstice. She wanted to capture winter through photos. That could be described as photojournalism, documenting winter. I think she is trying to convey the cold bright lights of winter.
Influence:Elena has influenced me to take winter photographs. Due to this past snow, I have been inspired to go out on our Nature walk in our subdivision to take photographs. I stayed out extra longer to take shots, when before I probably wouldn’t have stayed out as long. I have been influenced to focus on my composition in my photography.

Compare and Contrast: To compare the two types of images, the same aspect of the photos is shown. We both took our pictures in the same setting at the same angle. Winter was our theme, trying to capture white snow. To contrast these two types of images, Elena has much clearer composition due to her image quality, type of camera, and photographic techniques.
Personal Artist Statement: I chose to take these types of photos because it snowed this weekend. And I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for some landscapes. Using the absence of color, this applies to Rules of Composition 101. I chose the angles that I chose, I chose for the reason of trying to capture snow at a particular viewpoint. I used the Viewpoint 10 rules of Photography. The feeling i'm trying to convey is the cold crisp winter that is coming after the cool fall. How it feels to step into the 6 inches of snow with your worn out boots. The challenges I faced were fitting what I wanted in the picture, for I usually couldn't frame it how I wanted to because there was always one branch cut off.
